Indian students’ new go-to destination for studying abroad
Indian students were the single largest driver of growth, with enrolments increasing by nearly 30% year-on-year. For the second year in a row, Indian students formed the largest international cohort in Ireland, accounting for just over 20% of all international enrolments.
Indian students lead enrolment growth
As per the report, growth remained strong across study levels. Total postgraduate enrolments rose by 11% in 2024-25, signalling sustained demand for advanced qualifications. Undergraduate enrolments also continued to increase, supporting overall expansion in the sector.
According to ApplyBoard report, the rise in Indian enrolments came at a time when other major English-speaking destinations are facing policy uncertainty, making Ireland a relatively stable option for international students.
Courses, perceptions drive Ireland’s appeal
Business, administration and law programmes were the most popular among international students during the year. At the same time, information and communication technology, natural sciences and arts programmes recorded double-digit enrolment growth, reflecting strong interest in STEM- and technology-aligned fields linked to Ireland’s labour market.
