Cambridge–CityU MOU

On December 15, City University of Hong Kong (Dongguan) and the University of Cambridge signed a MOU to jointly advance the global development of faculty and students.

Professor CHIU Chi Yue, Vice President (Administration) of City University of Hong Kong (Dongguan), and Professor Michael Sutcliffe, Head of the Department of Engineering's Division of Mechanics, Materials and Design at the University of Cambridge, signed the cooperation agreement on behalf of both institutions.

The signing of this MOU marks a significant step forward in the collaboration between the two universities, further advancing their shared vision in education and research.

Moving forward, they will deepen exchanges and cooperation in areas such as faculty and student mobility, research collaboration, and jointly explore innovative pathways for engineering education and industry-academia integration. This partnership will benefit the global development of their faculty and students while providing sustained support for cultivating internationally oriented talent for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Friendly Cooperation and Exchange

Professor Michael Sutcliffe stated that the two universities share common philosophies and complementary strengths in engineering innovation and interdisciplinary research. They possess similar developmental foundations and resource characteristics, particularly in engineering talent cultivation and the integration of universities, communities, and industries. He expressed great anticipation for comprehensive and in-depth collaboration between the two institutions.

Professor CHIU Chi Yue emphasized that as an international innovative university, City University of Hong Kong (Dongguan) consistently focuses on global frontiers and prioritizes the close integration of engineering education with scientific research innovation. This collaboration with the University of Cambridge will establish a higher-level platform for academic exchange and research cooperation among faculty and students, thereby fostering the development of innovative talents with an international perspective.

Brief Introduction to the Two Universities

University of Cambridge, founded in 1209, is the fourth oldest university in the world still in operation. It has maintained a leading position in recent international rankings, securing fourth place in the 2025 ShanghaiRanking's Academic Ranking of World Universities. To date, the university has produced 126 Nobel laureates, 47 national leaders, and 217 Olympic medalists.

City University of Hong Kong (Dongguan) is located in Songshan Lake Science City, Dongguan. It is a collaborative educational institution established by City University of Hong Kong within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
