EdUHK and Vietnam: A Partnership for Future-Ready Education
As higher education systems across Asia navigate the opportunities and challenges brought by artificial intelligence (AI), digital transformation, and increasing global competition, collaboration has become more important than ever. Recognising this need, The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) recently strengthened its engagement with Vietnam through a series of strategic partnerships aimed at advancing educational innovation and capacity building across the region.
During a delegation visit to Vietnam in August 2026, EdUHK signed Memorandum of Understanding with nine leading Vietnamese higher education institutions and announced establishment of the EdUHK–Vietnam Higher Education Strategic Alliance. Partners include Vietnam National University (VNU) Hanoi, the National Academy of Education Management, Phenikaa University, and The University of Danang. The collaboration also includes student exchange agreements with two member universities of The University of Danang, creating new opportunities for academic mobility and cross-cultural learning.
The alliance reflects a shared vision of preparing universities, educators, and students for a rapidly changing future. While technological advancement is reshaping teaching, learning, and research, institutions must also ensure that innovation remains responsible, inclusive, and human-centred. Through the partnership, EdUHK will contribute its expertise in educational technology, artificial intelligence, teacher education, and institutional development to support knowledge exchange and capacity building among participating universities.
A key focus of the alliance will be the responsible integration of AI and machine learning into higher education. Universities worldwide are exploring how these technologies can enhance learning experiences, improve institutional effectiveness, and expand access to education. However, successful digital transformation requires more than the adoption of new tools. It demands investment in people, leadership, and collaborative networks that can translate technological potential into meaningful educational outcomes. The alliance seeks to create such a platform by connecting institutions with complementary strengths and shared aspirations.
Speaking on the significance of the initiative, Professor John Lee Chi-Kin, President of EdUHK, emphasised the importance of cross-border cooperation in shaping the future of higher education. He noted that by combining expertise in educational innovation and institutional development, universities can work together to build future-ready academic ecosystems and enhance their global competitiveness.
The visit also featured thematic workshops designed to facilitate knowledge sharing among university leaders and academics. Professor Ferrante Neri, Dean of the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences and Chair Professor of Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence at EdUHK, led discussions on AI and machine learning, while Mr Jesse Xiao Sizhe, Director of the Office of Institutional Development and Research, shared insights on university rankings and international visibility.
As Asia-Pacific higher education continues to evolve, partnerships such as the EdUHK–Vietnam Higher Education Strategic Alliance demonstrate how universities can move beyond traditional collaboration to co-create solutions for shared challenges. By fostering innovation, talent development, knowledge exchange, and responsible technological adoption, the alliance aims to contribute not only to the participating institutions but also to the broader advancement of higher education across the region.
